Having impressed with last year’s Multiverse EP, Portuguese production duo ERID return to Agnost1k Records with a pair of genre-bending new collaborations with emergent Swiss techno talent ID10-T.
Formed in 2016 by Agnost1k and Nekrolog1k Recordings head honcho David “Homeboy” Santos and his brother, Filipe “Sotnas” Santos, Lausanne-based tag-team ERID have made a name for themselves as some of the scene’s most forward-thinking producers, taking cues from a vast array of genres including hardcore, techno, drum and bass and ambient music to make for blistering, industrial results. Meanwhile, ID10-T, formerly known as Titl, rose to prominence last year with his remix of German techno heavyweight Marc Acardipane’s “Up & Down”. Following it up with a string of sweltering, rave-inspired four-to-the-floor belters, culminating in November’s Blue Screen EP on TRIP & acid, he’s firmly made his mark as one to watch in 2021.
First up on the ID10-T & ERID two-tracker comes “Our Subculture”, a glitched-out, atmospheric juggernaut of a track which shapeshifts into an entirely different beast past the halfway mark. Initially punctuated by flickering cymbals and murmuring basslines, the epic 140BPM number builds up to a fervent crescendo of pounding kicks and overdriven synth work with striking effects. “Safari”, on the other hand, sends listeners into a stupor with its rattling, percussive opening before reaching an intense climax centred around garbled acid synth stabs, making for yet another intoxicating slice of progressive, boundary-pushing club music.
